Introducing the Sarah Potenza Scholarship!
I firmly believe that creative and performing arts make the world a better place (and I know you do too, because you are here on my website reading this). For many young girls, being able to express themselves artistically and performing in front of other people gives them the opportunity to strengthen their self-esteem and to share their experience and inspiration with others. In my many (many, many) years on the road playing music and telling stories all across America I have realized many of my own dreams, and had the privilege of sharing the stage with many other women who have done the same. For many girls, realizing these dreams can be very hard not only because of the challenges all artists face, but also because of the unique challenges of doing this as a woman.
It is a fact that only 17% of professional musicians are women, and I refuse to believe that this is simply because we are less interested in this profession or less capable. In an effort to help young women acquire the support and guidance that can be necessary to take on the life of the stage, I am starting a new scholarship. We have committed to sending one female student from Smithfield High School for a tuition-free year at Girls Rock RI. The recipient will receive a full year music lessons in the instrument of her choice and a ticket to Girls Rock Camp.
Here’s where you come in. Please consider helping us reach our goal of raising $1000 by purchasing raffle tickets. We will be raffling off many unclaimed rewards from our recent “Road to Rome” Kickstarter campaign including house concerts, makeovers, snacks in bed, signed Sarah Potenza merch, concert tickets, tickets to our Road to Rome listening party and more. There is no limit on how many tickets you may buy so don’t be shy!
We will start raffling off prizes on October 1st so get your tickets today!
Thank you for your love and support ! – Sarah
